Wednesday Diary Poem

bubbles rise in pink liquid,
fishless aquarium in a tall glass
there's a man on the telly in a wedding suit
pretending to drive a car
there's a pain in my wrist and I've not got very far

lounging on the couch removing the laminate from a friend's poetry book
it looks neater without the loose dead skin

I remember sitting in Mr Patterson's room
at Benfieldside Juniors,
peeling the dried layer of PVA glue from my hairless arm after art class
i remember accidentally putting a football through the window
showering unsuspecting pupils with fake diamonds
a genuine PE accident so I didn't get smacked
didn't get smacked when I threw devil bangers in Miss Johnson's dancing class
Mr Patterson just laughed and said next time keep them in a tin

The skin of the book still bears the likesness of your wife and daughter
Held up to the light - Sagrada Familia

the mute tv shivers in a sunlit corner
twirling images of inverted ceilings
two bellringers at the ropes
as a nearby toilet flushes I am waiting for the next thing
what is the next thing
this evening a reading at word jazz
