Really annoyed the dust jacket flaps on Anomalies aren’t quite as I’d like. The main part of the jacket is printed on A3 which isn’t big enough to fit everything, so the flaps have to be added separately, but the amount of main cover wrap overhang isn’t substantial enough on one side: 15 mm shorter on front than back. Thought I’d be okay with it, but I’m really not. Anyway, good to get the book remade today and to not have to be outside. Good to chat with Mam and Ernie on the phone. Seem’s Ernie’s desktop computer is as slow as mine. I quizzed about Xmas presents. I am very late doing my journal. House is cold, head is throbbing, can’t believe the hours I’ve put in to overcome teething problems with book production. Want to go out tomorrow to get jacket reprinted. Fucking hate not having all the equipment at home. 11.51 pm.

Good afternoon in Consett Library with writers and staff, taking part in Christmas Crack event. I read ‘Snow’ from Hypomaniac; and ‘The House’ by Lorraine Weightman, who was away; and I read some of the lines from Margaret’s verse mini-panto. Had my first Xmas mince pie and some Lebkuchen biscuits. Alan Snelson calls them spicy polystyrenes. Bought some food on the way home, fell asleep on the couch whilst playing Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation album on YouTube. Did the prep for tomorrow’s Hexham workshop and had hassles from Facebook blocking my previous blogpost. Might change the format for next year. Or just change the blog. A lighter, brighter one. Brother Mark phoned at eleven on his nightshift. 11.12 pm.
Wednesday 12th December 2018
Wrote a load of stuff in Hexham library about the ride up then had a walk around town. Taster writing workshop for Safe Space at the Abbey went well. I gave a short reading of four poems then a bunch of exercises: acrostics, finish the sentence, Kennings, ‘I am...’ poems and Absurd Words. Ride to Newcastle took longer than entire outward journey from Moorside. Met Jenni in Eldon Square. Had tea at eat4less then wandered round shops for an hour before settling in The Centurion to get the no confidence vote result. Switched off on bus back to Consett. Tesco for supplies, then last bus back to base and into multiple layers of clothing to combat the freezing cold. 11.50 pm.

Slow day. Re-tweaked margins for Anomalies dust jackets, listened to Kate Bush albums and Madonna tracks. Read a pamphlet by Bradford Middleton from Analog Submissions Press and some poets from Bareback Press. Ordered Spoken Word Poets of the UK tea towels and other items. Had a little sleep. Packed for tomorrow’s writing workshop, the last of the year. 11.26 pm.

Woke around six. Morning pages then a bacon sandwich. Shaved and out to Consett Library. Canny session. Journal warm-ups, Stepping Stones fiction exercise, revenge character vignettes. Quick run round the dinner table at home then out to Durham. More Anomalies dust jackets printed in assorted colours. Had a wander round the shops for a while. Spent some time in Waterstones. Preferable to Newcastle branch due to the cosy feel, despite the limited selection of poetry. Love seeing beautifully bound hardback classics with graphics printed directly onto the book cloth. The Waddington Street Centre staff party was good. Buffet was awesome, lovely people. Good laughs. Particularly Peter calling the cup cakes lesbian and raspberry. Game of Pictionary, Play Your Cards Right and Karaoke. Sang Spirit in the Sky with Ali, Pete and Rosie. Pleased to be officially finished for the year. Just Xmas to sort. OK. 11.49 pm.

At home this weekend. Pleased to complete a high quality Anomalies standard hardback and get it wrapped for the recipient. Good to bind up this month’s morning pages booklets. Listened to The Cult’s ‘Love’ album whilst typing up page-colour sequence notes for book production. Might read Shelley Day and Geoff Hattersley before bed. Minus one degrees in the house tonight. 10.32 pm.

Nice bike ride over to Leadgate post depot to pick up copy of ‘Before the Chop IV’ by Henry Rollins. Then lovely Sunday dinner. Read a load of ‘Meat School’ poetry – raw and direct, a la Bukowski – this afternoon from Scar Publications. Also scanned in 25 pieces from original ‘Unblind Eye – Afterbirth’ Brother AX140 electronic typewriter manuscripts for Anomalies Deluxe whilst listening to more albums by The Cult. Enjoyed ‘Choice of Weapon’ and ‘Hidden City’ very much. Electric, not so. 10.43 pm.
