Bound proof copy of Laughter To Split Glass arrived mid morning but I couldn’t give it much time in the house as I had things to deliver in Durham before moving on to Newcastle to do Xmas shopping with Jenni. Took the book with me. It looks mint - little more than a couple of positional adjustments required - but I want to sleep on it before returning it to Red Squirrel Press with final thoughts and requests. Me and Jenni did well. Pit stop at The Goose for a carvery. Haven’t had one for ages. Funny to have my book in my bag with a poem about The Goose in it. Really chuffed with the selection and sequencing. It’s going to be hard for me to top it. Maybe in five or six years. 11.13 pm.

Got the bound book proof back out in the post this afternoon. Mam and Ernie think the cover is fine. It got over sixty responses on Facebook this evening. The launch event is Wednesday 9th January 2019 at Newcastle Lit and Phil. Three weeks tomorrow. Had a lazy afternoon reading bits and pieces of Raymond Carver. Backed up my hard drive coz the computer crashed. Don’t think it’ll last much longer. I’m toying with the idea of a laptop but would prefer to stick with a desktop pc. Good to hear from Stephen Clark this evening. His artwork is on the new book. And a comment he made way back in the early days prompted the title. Book looks ace. Be good to have another official poetry collection available. 11.35 pm.

I don’t do domestic very well. Or maybe that should be ‘festive’. Out this afternoon for five hours trying to complete my purchases. At least I got some wrapping paper and some cheap baguettes. The latter caused Tesco self-service checkout to malfunction and prompted me to shout, ‘Stupid cunting machine!’ without caring who heard or interpreted as inappropriate. I only wrapped a few things tonight. Was listening to (show me your) ‘Teeth’ by Lady Gaga when I discovered Lydia Lunch is coming to Newcastle. RARRGGHHH! 11.34 pm.

Another drawn-out day. More trawling shops of my hometown. Wanted to give gig tickets as a gift but you never know how that’s going to go if the recipient isn’t familiar with the performer. I did some bank transactions and checked out the 2019 diaries in a few places. Poundland won. Spent ages in Tesco looking at alcohol I wouldn’t drink even if you paid me. Flicked through umpteen DVDs that would put me to sleep in seconds. Tonight I wrapped the remaining presents. Took a while coz I made boxes. Worrying feature on Newsnight about North East rise of the far right. What a shithole the world is turning into. Tinnitus really bad today. Jenni and Stephen were in touch. I sent Stephen a copy of My Dark Matter. Only five left. 11.35 pm.

Pleased to not venture out today. Tidied the kitchen then bathroom. Ernie dropped by mid afternoon to pick up presents, told me my cousin Heather, who is a vicar, has been enjoying YouTube vids of my poems. Jenni phoned with a run through of her gift buying exploits. She is out on the town tonight. I have no such plans for any of the holidays. Tom Leonard died today. I only know a few of his poems. They are very hard to read in the Glaswegian dialect he used on the page, but sounded good when he read them. Tonight I did a rehearsal of my Laughter at the Lit and Phil book launch. Took a couple of poems out, added one, switched a few around. Will be fine by second week of January. Listened to Adrian Mitchell poems. Read more Brexit nonsense. Sigh… 11.25 pm.

Out in town twice for food. Visited sister Diane and nephew Kyle. Haven’t seen them properly for nearly a year. Gave presents and chatted for a couple of hours, told them about Terror in the Trees. Back home I fell asleep on the couch. Listened to Adele and Hazel O’Connor. Read more articles on Brexit. Ate chocolate. Didn’t do a stroke of housework. 11.45 pm.

Nice to get a message from Jemma who worked on Terror in the Trees. Kind words about my books. She and hubby Steve helped many of us zombies with makeup at Beamish Hall back in October. Both are keen to come to my book launch next month. Today has mostly been about tidying the spare room, posting pix of a rare Henry Rollins book on Facebook and listening to Queen Forever. 10.37 pm.
