Got
through chores without too much grief. Saw the snooker final this afternoon and
evening. Shame John Higgins didn't get closer to the finished line, but super
amazing achievement from Judd Trump. I've not been far since the Waddington
Street Centre 10th Anniversary Poetry Jam event on Thursday night. Got a lesson
plan sorted tonight. My bag is packed. Even food for tomorrow in there. Read
some student works and responded to the most pressing, will read the rest
tomorrow on the bus. Aim to get android tablet to repair guy in the morning and
back again by teatime. Good to hear from Jenni throughout the day. And from Sky
who is chuffed with the Liz Berry links I sent a couple of days ago. Really fucking cold again. Fleece and woolly hat to keep me warm this evening.

Up
around seven for scribbles and a bowl of porridge. Twenty to nine Stanley bus. Then on to Chester-le-Street. Then Birtley. Dropped my shattered
tablet in at the computer place, a second storey flat just off Durham Road. Then
bus back to Durham
City. Read Flood by Clare
Shaw. A mint poetry collection. Got some student feedback written and did the
session. Good one with a fiction exercise then proof edit session on a little
in-house anthology. No word back from the computer guy so just came home
tonight. Too tired to do much, listened to early Rod Stewart then The Mission.
Watched ‘It'll Be Better Tomorrow’ – the Hubert Selby Junior documentary.
Fucking brilliant. 10.36 pm.

Indoors
all day. At the computer much of the morning. Got word from the PC repair man:
my tablet is ready for collection. But I can't go to Birtley till Friday – must
get as much mileage from a bus ticket as possible: Workshop, tablet collection,
food shopping, ride to Jen's place. Trawled through 1999 to 2001 manually typed
journals for resetting on computer, but much of the work will be dictation on
the tablet, then black and white photos for Anomalies Deluxe. The project is
taking an embarrassingly long time. Some of the final pieces need slight
editing. Good to know Michael Monroe (ex-Hanoi Rocks) is on tour in November. If
I can get a ticket for Club Academy in Manchester
I will be there. 10:45 pm.

Chuffed
to get a copy of Postbox Magazine with my story ‘The Sugar-Coated Nihilist’ in
it. Read a few of the others so far and there's some impressive stuff packed
into a few pages from each author. Had to rest tonight otherwise I’d puke my
guts up. Had to lie down three times. Final time has sorted out the headache. Got
my workshop prepped for tomorrow. Read lots of online stuff about some bloke
who posted a dodgy picture to insult the royals. Question Time is on again.
Brexit bullshit. Had porridge. Got a drink. Pleased I didn't puke. 11:27 pm.
Friday 10th May 2019
Up at
half six, morning pages, shaved, ready for workshop. Wasn't in best of moods but managed to pull it off ok. The Consett Writers all write mint
stories. I got Frank O'Hara's Selected Poems from the library. Read some on the
bus then switched to Foyle Young Writers anthology. Thought the kids’ poems
were much better than Frank’s. Picked up the repaired tablet. The bloke at the
repair shop was much more affable in person than on the phone – he said he
hates phones. Got food shopping done. Chicken jalfrezi and rice for tea. Packed
up some stuff and got another bus into town. Read some Postbox Magazine stories
on the way to Gateshead. Re-read my own and
made myself laugh out loud. Jenni liked it as well. Had a chat about social
media. Chuffed to see the C5 Adele documentary tonight. Please to be away from
home for a few days. OK. 11.35 pm.

Jenni
made me a fried egg sandwich for breakfast. Watched The Big Bang Theory. Read a
few stories from Postbox Magazine, had a walk into Newcastle. Jenni met me after her
shift at the Tyne Theatre. Ate pizza and had a wander round town, sat in old Eldon Square, walked to
St. James' Park before Jen’s next shift. Popped into Waterstones. Looked at
rock magazines in WHSmiths. Backache prompted early return to Bensham. Pasty and
beans. Fell asleep on the futon. Watched Britain's Got Talent when Jen got home and Status Quo
acoustic show. 10.32 pm.

Lazy day
with Jenni watching Moomins, Diagnosis Murder, etc. Went out for ice cream to
go with our black cherry pie filling. Booked a guest for Poetry Jam and read another
Postbox Magazine short story. Then some Frank O'Hara poems. Bus home OK. Tablet
running really slow. Internet connection pretty shit. 11:30 pm.
