Threat of migraine stopped play tonight. Plodding away at end of term paperwork, but being at the computer for best part of ten hours got to me and I had to lie down after a couple of ibuprofen. Managed to get downstairs to catch the Brexit vote. Chuffed that it went in favour of Parliament getting a say on how things are handled, but Maybot can choose to ignore it – which she probably will. When is someone just going to stand up, tell her to shut up, and say: ‘For god’s sake, just quit now!’ – none of this right honourable member, just: 'You! Charlatan at the despatch box. Just clock-off and fuck-off right now!' I have a few things to sort out tomorrow morning then hopefully I can get paperwork done and hand it in on the way home after the final session. I am so ready for a week on my own writing. 11.19 pm.

Early rise. Surprisingly, I got through all the extra paperwork for Waddy/College and was good to go by 20 to eleven this morning. Had a great lunchtime chat with staff, listening to Ali Lee retell the tale of the weekend Amanda Palmer stayed at her flat last May. Did final session. A few bits of criticism from one of the senior participants for me to ponder but I’m sure things will be okay next time. I got everyone signed up for next course anyway. Put up Poetry Jam posters, went to college with paperwork then back into Durham. Got a Mother’s day card. And from the library James Kelman’s Dirt Road and Kevin Brooks’s The Devil’s Angel. Also, a skateboard manual in a sale for a quid. Read TDA on the bus to Stanley. No suitable Mother’s Day gifts in Asda this evening. 11.25 pm.

Long lie in after staying up till three this morning reading to the end of ‘Lucas’ by Kevin Brooks – great story of small village prejudice with a gripping climax. Love the handful of Brooks’ titles I’ve read so far this year. Being at the PC all day is really messing up my head – tired. All I managed was some typing up, listening mainly to songs by The Mission – great nostalgia trip, dredging up memories. Good to get some people signed up for the May anniversary Poetry Jam. Pleased to make headway. Got a headache so knocked off for a while. I watched The Mission ‘Silver’ DVD from the Brixton Academy show the week before I saw them in Leeds back in 2011. Brexit shit: May will leave if her deal goes through. DUP won’t go with it. Looks like another stalemate. Porridge for supper then Newsnight. 10.55 pm.

Very little done that I wanted done – was out shopping till lunchtime. Bit of hassle with Mother’s Day parcel this afternoon. 800 grams over 2kg tripled the postage to £15. Fuck that! Counter staff at post office helped out with bubble wrap and a lighter postbag. I used the moment as a Steve Achieves. Pleased to get workshop prepped this evening for tomorrow; enjoyed listening to The Jesus and Mary Chain. Jenni met them in the Head of Steam a couple of years ago. Tory party is in total disarray tonight. Good! All my prep until a week on Monday is done; looking forward to more of my own editing. 10.42 pm.

We’re not leaving. I’ve said it from the start and reckon it’s true. I wrote a pretty decent piece in the Consett Writers workshop. Group all did good pieces. We went to Wetherspoons afterwards. Short sleeves outside for a while but chilly on the walk home. Too tired to do much; need some lazy time. Been asleep much of the evening. Chuffed to get a Steve Achieves online. Watched a bit of a Fleetwood Mac documentary, a little bit of The Beatles. Tried to read James Kelman. Fell asleep. 10.33 pm.
Saturday 30th March 2019
A day on the couch: drifting off and waking up. Not good for much; had to delay a ride to Gateshead. Then cursed coz I wish I’d just made the effort. Fatigue and threat of rain, be damned. Cheese on toast for tea and hot cross bun with apricot jam. Curtains closed shortly after four because it’s easy to see in from outside when the light is on. I read The Bunker Diary by Kevin Brooks in five hours. 9.58 pm.
Sunday 31st March 2019
Up early and out on the bike. Pleasantly surprised that it didn’t grunt and groan on the ride over to Jen’s. We had a bit of a catch-up, ate spicy potato wedge sandwiches for dinner, saw some politics on telly then went out to Gateshead for supplies: cheese baguettes and marble cake for tea. We watched The Chase, Dragons’ Den and Corrie, basically a big lazy Sunday. Pleased to be here. 11.00 pm.
